Hello,
My name is Rachel Hayden and I am an educator in the Savannah area. I am currently earning my M.A.T. in Early Childhood Education at Armstrong State University. When I graduate I would like to teach K-3 in the public schools here. It is my belief that every child is entitled to a challenging and exemplary education. I have been teaching for a little over a year as a substitute teacher. During this time, I have seen amazing poverty and the effects it has on students. It is my mission to help students overcome their struggles and get a quality education; I will do whatever it takes to accomplish this ongoing fight against hunger, poverty, developmental issues, and even abuse and neglect.
Outside of the classroom I am a very active person. I love running and swimming and I do one or the other almost daily. I run the Gate River Run each year (9.3 miles) and I am training for the Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon here in Savannah. Through another teacher, I found Girls on the Run, which is a wonderful non-profit that teaches girls about running, positive thinking, goal setting and achievement. Since we recently moved to Savannah, I am looking forward to joining the Coastal Georgia chapter. In my spare time I love to travel, read, cook, and interact with my family and friends. That's me!
